A review of the JB College Tour to Millersville and Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences

On March 28th, 30 JB juniors and sophomores attended a college trip. In the morning, students went to Millersville University for a tour and information session. In the afternoon, students split up - half went to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and the other half went to Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences. College Ambassador Melody gives us some general information on the two colleges she toured - MU and PCHS.

Millersville University Tour:
We first went to the visitors center and got an introduction. It included a very informational powerpoint presentation. We then proceed on a guided tour that lasted about an hour. It included the pond, most of the academic buildings, the stadium and the theatre.

Another thing that we got to see on our tour was the rooms. They showed us a room from the current dormitory style rooms and a sample room of the suite style rooms that the new residence halls will have. The dormitory style rooms were small and were just a single room. The bathroom was shared with the other 20 residents of the same gender. In the suite style rooms there are multiple rooms for all the roommates and they had a bathroom to share. Instead of sharing a bathroom with 40 people, you would only share with 3 other people

Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences:
Tour: The school itself is very small, which makes it easy to navigate around. The classrooms were a pretty decent size and they had very high tech equipment. They had 14 dummies to practice on, which is a lot for such a small student body. The dummies are robotic and teach you how to practice medicine on patients. The benefit of the small student body size and large amount of dummies is that all students have an opportunity for a lot of time with the dummies and instructors. Also, the students get a lot of clinical time. This helps them prepare for being out in the field. It’s fairly close to home, It’s around 2 ½ hours away, but it’s in Lancaster so there is plenty to do. The only down side is there are no residence halls. They do however help students get housing close by in Lancaster city.
